her story

Q had wanted to have a "fancy" date for quite some time.  But on this Friday, I was not feeling it.  After a really grueling week at work, I had to make the 90-minute trip to East Lansing and just wanted to jump in my sweatpants for a night of vegging.  My hair looked bad, I had nothing to wear and I was tired.  Grabbing burgers would have been just fine.

While driving, I called my mom and friend (now bridesmaid), Allysen, who convinced me that I should go and let Q host a romantic night.  So I sucked it up, threw something on, tried to tame my hair and put some make-up on.  We were already running late by the time I made it to East Lansing.

When we stepped out the door on our way to dinner, I noticed it was raining. I said to Q,"Can I take your jacket and put it over my head? I don't want to get my hair wet."   He got extremely awkward, almost as if he didn't want me to hold his jacket.  He decided to hold his jacket over my head for me - what a gentleman!

We pulled up to Troppo - where we had our first date in Michigan - and we were seated on an empty side of the restaurant.  Weird, but I just thought it was because Q knew someone that worked there.  We had an amazing dinner and ordered dessert before getting up to take a picture to mark the occasion.  After all, we did get dressed up!  Our waiter offered to take a few pictures on his camera phone.

Once he snapped the picture, he asked if we wanted to take another...and that's when Q took out the ring box from his jacket!  This is where everything starts to get fuzzy.  I just remember telling him, "Wrong hand!" when he grabbed my right hand instead of the left.  Once I said yes, there were lots of happy tears, hugs and kisses.  We went back to our booth where we were served dessert and champagne and Q recapped his pre-engagement adventures - asking for my parents' permission and buying the ring.

It was perfect :)
